Music and urban culture festival Tallinn Music Week (TMW), taking place for the tenth time on 2-8 April, has added a new music night by FatCat’s 130701 imprint and Japan Sound Portrait project on 6 April at Loomelootsik house to its concert programme.
The TMW jubilee edition´s music programme on 5-7 April showcases almost 260 artists from 30 countries. The whole schedule of the music programme is available on the TMW website.
British label 130701, who has presented their artists at TMW festivals before, is now going to join forces with Japan Sound Portrait, a project by BBC Radio Three host Nick Luscombe and film director and Japanologist Neil Cantwell. Together, they will present the adventurous new music night on the second floor of Loomelootsik at Sadama subdistrict.
The 130701 artists include their latest signing, Swedish-Iranian pianist and composer Shida Shahabi, cello-playing explorer Resina, and an artist crossing organised electronical glitches with orchestral elements Emilie Levienaise-Farrouch. Japan Sound Portrait is represented by Hatis Noit, a Japanese vocalist deconstructing Western Classical, Japanese folk and nature’s own ambience atmosphere. In addition to these artists, the audience can also enjoy the awarded composer of electroacoustic music Simon Vincent and experimental harp-looper laboratory by the Estonian artist Liis Viira aka Liz Wirestring.
130701 maps the edges of the post and modern classical genre and has been described by the British music web Drowned In Sound as “something of a blueprint outlet for instrumental based musicians worldwide whose creations don’t quite fit safely into any genre or roster”. Its roster has included, among others, post-minimalism composer Max Richter, piano techniques’ experimenter Hauschka, who also performed at the TMW last year, and Icelandic composer Jóhann Jóhannsson, who recently passed away. Japan Sound Portrait is a joint Japanese music project by BBC Radio Three host Nick Luscombe and film director and Japanologist Neil Cantwell.
The 130701 and Japan Sound Portrait showcase takes place at Loomelootsik – a small limestone building situated at Lootsi street 8 at Tallinn city centre that used to house Tam Gallery and restaurant Neh. Since the beginning of this year, the first floor of the building with beautiful art pieces on the walls belongs to home restaurant ANNO and the second floor has a music studio and creative spaces.
Tickets for the TMW 2018 130701 / FatCat Records & Japan Sound Portrait new music night are available for 12 euros at Piletilevi. Tickets cost 15 euros at the venue on the concert night.
